Crazy poo you would never do in the real world just to pass the letter of the law on the visual. No boost hat or connecting piping from the turbo to the carb. There is only a VERY basic visual inspection (which meant we were running with an open element air cleaner on top of the boost-modified carb and the turbo blowing air straight into the atmosphere!). We both had our jaws hanging open that it made it through. I was there at the inspection station with him when it passed. And no cats or emissions devices of any kind. My buddy with his 72 Chevelle passed DE emissions with a low compression lumpy cammed bastard of a motor WITH A TURBO. Straight from the horse's mouth (PennDOT): I'll have my new Classic plates & registration in about a week. I JUST WENT AND REGISTERED MY MALIBU AS A CLASSIC THIS MORNING. (Yeah, like to the track or the local dyno day event!!!). Just that it should be typically driven 1 day a week or less as well as to-and-from "car events". So it covers a multitude of minor sins, as far as I'm concerned.Īlso, there is no hard mileage restriction and no way for anybody to check you on this that I can tell. Requirement no longer exists.Īccording to the letter of the law the vehicle still has to "substantially conform with manufacturers specifications and appearances", but there's no "numbers matching police" going to be sent out after you to confirm this. They used to reject cars that had obviously non-stock wheels or blowers sticking through the hood, etc. Now, it's not all really THAT simple but the dreaded "4 pictures of your vehicle from 4 different angles" thing they used to require to prevent modified vehicles from registering this way IS GONE. You pays your money and you takes your pick. So you can actually SELL your modified vehicle to someone else in PA without them having to do the same emissions inspection dance you used to do! And it can be transferred to the next owner (for a fee) if they want to keep it registered that way. You pay a little under $100 to change the registration over (plus fees for the local auto tags store, if you choose to use their services) and you're done with yearly re-registration fees. Is your car 25 years or older? You can register it as a Classic car OR as an Antique car (no inspection required AT ALL, but you can't legally drive it at night).īOTH registrations are LIFETIME. Is your car 15 years or older? You can register it as a Classic car (no emissions inspection required, just safety inspection). PA changed the requirements for registering your ride as a Classic or Antique car. I don't know when it changed, but it was certainly news to me when I heard about it. Moderators- not sure where to put this, please feel free to move to a different forum if you deem it necessary.īoy, do I have some good news for PA 2nd Gen owners with modified vehicles! Are you about sick of finding "shady" ways to get your car through emissions inspection? Is it only a weekend fun car for you (not driven much)? Then you'll probably want to hear this.
